The World of Thornleigh Hotel
Forty years Onward
We all like a celebration, not least those of us at Thornleigh Hotel who have been providing Christian hospitality in Grange-over-Sands since 1973. So 2013 is our Ruby Anniversary, and we hope you will join us during the year to celebrate, too.
Just a few years after man first walked on the moon, the directors of Highway Trust were looking for a permanent guest house and conference centre, somewhere in the UK, in which to expand their hitherto mainly overseas holidays, to encourage physical, emotional and spiritual refreshment." A place "preferably along the south coast of England", and certainly "within easy access from London, were just two of the criteria put before those charged with looking for a property.
Surprisingly, Thornleigh could not be more unlike where the Trust had in mind, but the past forty years have proved the decision was right to buy, develop and subsequently expand the premises that have been such a blessing in so many ways. Overlooking Morecambe Bay, in the North West, and over 3 hours away from London, by the fastest means of modern transport, the selection of venue was excellent.
"We'll praise Him for all that is past . . . And trust Him for all that's to come!"
